Wijnaldum's Imminent Transfer To Barcelona Takes New Twist

It was reported last season by several media outlets that Liverpool midfielder Georgio Wijnaldum will quit Anfield in favor of a move to Barcelona this summer as he looks to get a fresh challenge in a different country and a different league. He has so refused to sign a new contract despite Liverpool presenting up to two fresh deals that were said to be an upgrade to his current contract.

According to the reports, the Netherlands international midfielder has already secured a verbal agreement with the Spanish club and is all set to quit the Premier League in favor of a switch to the Spanish La Liga this summer. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that both he and the club have done well to try and convince him to extend his stay at the club because of how much of an important player he is to the squad, but those attempts have been fruitless.

There seem to have been a new twist about his potential transfer to the Camp Nou, however, with a certain Barcelona midfielder keen to stay at the club after he was reported to have made his mind to secure an exit away from Barca. The midfielder in question, Miralem Pjanic, disclosed his intentions of wanting to walk through the exit door at Barcelona after falling further down the pecking order following the arrival of Ronald Koeman as the club's manager, a decision that reportedly fuelled the Wijnaldum to Barcelona transfer rumors, but it seems there has been a new development.

According to Marca, Pjanic has reversed his decision and now wants to remain at Barcelona despite knowing that his place in the team will remain under threat. The report states that he will remain at Barca and fight for his place in the team instead of going to another club where he also won't be assured of a starting role.
