Ernesto Valverde: Neymar situation affected Barcelona

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has admitted that the Catalan giants were affected in the early part of the campaign due to the Neymar transfer saga.

The Brazil international sealed a world-record €222m move to Paris Saint-Germain in early August, and shortly after, the Spanish outfit suffered a damaging 5-1 Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid across two legs.

Speaking prior to Barca's Copa del Rey game against third-tier Real Murcia, Valverde reflected on the turbulent days in the early part of his reign, he said: "I think everyone has their opinion. It is true that at those moments the situation really did us a bit of harm. The environment as well. There was a lot of noise around the club. But I just focus on what happens on the field, that's my job. Everything can affect that situation but I am just concerned about what happens on the field."

Barcelona star striker, Luis Suarez has said that a new contract with Barcelona is in the works and might be completed in no distant time.

Suarez is looking forward to a renewal of his contract with the Camp Nou dwellers and hopes to keep on playing with the El Classico giants for as long as possible. Suarez’s former deal with Barcelona was to expire by the middle of 2019, but with reports on ground, the striker might continue to stay on with the Luis Enrique's side for two or three more seasons.

Barcelona stars Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are set to get new deals with the clubs, according to reports.

Luis Suarez joined from Liverpool in a big-money move but could renew his contract in December based on reports in the Catalan press.

Suarez sign in Barcelona

Even with the arrival of Suarez and a few other players that were signed to Barcelona a few months ago, it made no difference towards the final outcome of the Spanish club during the previous underwhelming season where they lost against Copa del Rey in a finals match when playing against Real Madrid as well as failing to win La Liga title which was won by Athletic Madrid, it truly was a disappointing season compared to other seasons when Barcelona seemed to be unstoppable with more and more trophies being added to their collection.
