BARCELONA SIGNINGS SHOW QUALITY AGAINST SOCIEDAD

Barcelona fans saw some of their new signings in competitive action for the first time during the Spanish La Liga opener against Real Sociedad on Sunday. Dutchman Memphis Depay,Spanish defender Eric Garcia and Brazilian fullback Emerson Royal were the new signings on show as Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 4-2 at home to start thenew league campaignwith a win.

Depay and Garcia started the league encounter against Real Sociedad, while Emerson came on as a substitute in the second half.

Barcelona signed Dutch international Depay on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Lyon ended. He provided the assist for the first goal during the Real Sociedad game. His cross was turned inby veteran defender Gerard Pique via head. Depay was on the pitch until the final minutes of the game when he was replaced by French defender Christian Lenglet.

Spanish international Garcia came through the famed La Masia Academy before he was signed by Premier League champions Manchester City. He's back at the club after his free transfer move this summer. Garcia was on from the start of the Sociedad game until the finalseven minutes of the game before he was replaced by Ronald Araujo. By the time of his exit, Barcelona were leading 3-1 thanks to the brace from Danish international Martin Braithwaite either side of the interval.

Braithwaite was one of the players linked with a transfer away from Barcelona this summer but he was able to prove his worth against the Basque club. JulenLobete pulled one back for Real Sociedadon 82 minutes before Mikel Oyarzabaladded a second Sociedad game three minutes later to put the home team under pressure. Barcelona were in danger of letting three points slip away until the victory was confirmed in added time via second half substitute Sergi Roberto.
