Sergi Roberto says that he has to thank manager Luis Enrique

Midfielder Sergi Roberto says that he has to thank manager Luis Enrique for helping him realise his dream of playing for the Spanish national team.

The 24-year-old has been one of the finest young prospects in Barcelona’s squad over the last couple of years. After coming through the ranks at the club, he made his debut for Barcelona’s senior team in 2010. Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as a regular member of the team especially during the 2015-16 season. The player has already made 25 league appearances this season along with gametime in other competitions like the Champions League.

After witnessing Roberto do well in a number of positions from Barcelona, manager Vicente del Bosque has decided to take the risk and include him in the squad for the upcoming major tournament – Euro 2016. As a precursor to this decision, Roberto has been part of the squad that will take on Italy and Romania in friendly games. Roberto says that the faith that Enrique has in his abilities is a major reason for the player to be a first-team regular the season. He just hopes that this good run continues. Roberto says that even though he is a central player, he is ready to give Vicente del Bosque whatever he requires.

"It's entirely Luis Enrique's fault that I'm here. He gives me belief, gave me a lot of game time and if you play with your team and do well, you get the recognition from the national team.Last year I didn't have much of a main role, but this year I do, I'm playing a lot of minutes and helping the team, which is what I want.I'm very happy with the season we're having, it's given me the opportunity to be here and I'm very happy,” said Roberto.
